On May 17, 2023, privately-owned Hiru TV channel's prime time news broadcasted a segment about a scam that is being operated near the Immigration and Emigration Department in Battaramulla. This segment was broadcasted without censoring the video footage of the suspects, who were also allegedly addicted to drugs and substance use. Media ethical guidelines recommend to not reveal the identity of such suspects without their explicit permission and when the involvement in the crime is not proven in a court of law.en_US
